For fans of Mexico's national soccer team, one true love

An interesting article about the growth of US-based interest in the Mexican national soccer team.

We wrote about this phenomenon some 25 years ago for Pacific News Service and it seems that we were only scratching the surface, as the demographic and economic significance has become hard to ignore.

AP-Univision Poll Finds Discrimination High Against Latinos

A new poll has just been released by the AP and Univision, revealing that Latinos have become the target of discrimination in the country. The discrimination they suffer and perceive is higher than for any other social group in the nation, including women and other racial minorities.

"An Associated Press- Univision Poll found that 61% of people overall said Latinos faced significant discrimination, compared with 52% who said blacks did and 50% who said women.

The survey also underscored how perceptions of prejudice can vary by ethnicity. While 81% of Latinos said they confronted a lot of or some discrimination, a smaller but still substantial 59% of non-Latinos said so."

Michael Gerson - The GOP's harsh immigration stance will cost it

An interesting article from Gerson.

One of his most interesting lines as he discusses the possible costs of the Republican party's anti-imigrant tendency at a time when there is an ongoing demographic growth of Latinos in Southwestern states, who are now at least 40% of the high school students in each state: "In a matter of decades, the Republican Party could cease to be a national party."
